Judy,

I would like to thank you and the committee for honoring me at the recent Legends & Lunch program. This was a very rewarding experience, and you did a great job of making this a very memorable event. I enjoyed the opportunity to visit with many old friends. With so many people to visit with, it was difficult to focus on everything that was going on at the  conclusion of the ceremony. I truly had a wonderful time.

Please convey my thanks to everyone that helped you organize this event. Due to the many activities of beginning a new school year, I am behind in taking care of my correspondence, but please know that I am grateful for your efforts. I find it difficult to read much more than textbooks at this time of the year, but my wife is reading Terry's book. She says it is very interesting and well written. Even though she did not grow up in New Buffalo, she relates well to his style of writing. Recognizing his book was a very worthwhile objective. We are also enjoying the picture of the old school we were able to obtain from Ron. I also found the opportunity to hear your husbands musical background very interesting.

My days in music at New Buffalo are among my most cherished memories. We had a wonderful group of students in our bands, as well as great community, parental, and administrative support. Thank you for helping me relive this time in my life. New Buffalo has a rich heritage, and I feel your efforts to keep it alive are very commendable.

Sincerely,

Tom Holets

7/31/2006 - The Thank-you note below is reprinted from a lovely hand-written note from Marge Slater who along with her husband,
(the late) Richard Slater, won the Education Legend(s) award for
66 1/2 years of combined service, making a difference to NB youth!

Dear Judy,

You did a beautiful job getting everything organized and presented at the Legends 'n Lunch on Saturday July 29th.

You cannot imagine how truly honored I felt for Dick and I being selected as Legends in Education.  I honestly had no control over my emotions.

Dick and I were together 24/7 going to school together and home the same.  The 24/7 carried over into retirement and until his death in July of 2000.

It was wonderful seeing you again and find that you are still the same fun loving gal I remember in school.

Sincerely,

Marge Slater
